Yesterday Uraeus posted a note about an entry about how harsh things have gotten in the online world, worrying that things seem to grow worse as time goes by. However, I've watched this trend for years and find that it's a seasonal thing; things will get better. :-)

Sun's BigAdmin Newsletter is a vehicle to promote Sun products, focus on the benefits of Solaris and UNIX in general, and brand Sun as an OpenSource player. The Techie Toolbox should provide clever examples of problem solving using all these paradigms. I was quite disapointed when I read their example script to run a command on the last Sunday of a month.

It's one of those, one of these, half a dozen of the other scenarios, and it indirectly involves RSS because I think this may be a solution to my much broadcast prognosis on the fate of RSS, and put quite simply and direct, it goes like this: why not distribute RSS via a 'Listener' pattern?

ByteHoard is a remote file storage system that provides a Web-based interface for users to upload, download, edit, delete, and share their files. It uses a database for user details, registrations, etc., and needs PHP 4 or higher. It has a fully-featured admin interface, along with moderated registrations, automatic email notification, and template-based layouts.
Changes:
This is almost an all-new codebase with faster, nicer, and easier to use code and interface. It's still alpha, so not all features are present, but it is usable.

Mailadmin is a little administration interface to
the popular Cyrus mail server daemon. It supports
every feature Cyrus provides, and fits in most MTA
configurations. A key feature is the non-standard,
generic administration hierarchy which not only
seperates "normal users" from "administrators",
but enables the mailserver-master to create
instances between them. You will be able to let
other users create their own sub-users and thus
either share a single mail server between
different organizations or project your company's
employee structure.
Changes:
The code has been cleaned up, and a few bugs were fixed. A critical bug with authentication was fixed. Support for multiple servers was added. Cyrus virtual domain support was implemented. A prefix to MySQL tables can now be defined. Automatic detection of IMAP hierarchy separators was implemented. Newsletters can be hidden. Catchalls can be created. The supplied sample daemon supports caching of passwords (handy if your MySQL server crashes).

DACS, the Distributed Access Control System, is a
flexible role-based access control system,
comprising a set of authentication methods, an
Apache 2 module and suite of CGI programs, and a
single sign-on system, oriented towards
controlling access to Web service requests. It
also includes a C/C++ toolkit for building new
authentication and access control functionality
into programs. It can help manage access to Web
resources in many situations, whether on just one
Web server, several Web servers at one site, or
many Web servers spread across the Internet.
Changes:
This release has support for LDAP and Microsoft ADS-based authentication, improved man pages, and minor bugfixes. It has new and renamed DACS expression functions, including LDAP name parsing. If -v and --version are given, it will also print module version stamps. An initial version of WWW-Authenticate/Authorization header handling has been added (ACS can respond with or accept RFC 2617 headers). An "ndbm" storage method has been added (includes gdbm in compatibility mode). Missing C/C++ bit operators for DACS expressions have been added.

pmacct is a small set of IPv4/IPv6 accounting and
aggregation tools. Aggregation of IP traffic revolves
around the concept of primitives (VLAN id, source and
destination MAC addresses, IP addresses, networks, AS
numbers, ports, ToS field, and IP protocol are supported)
that may be employed alone or arbitrarily combined with
others to form complex aggregation methods. It supports
custom historical breakdown, packet sampling, filtering
and tagging, recovery actions, and triggers. Both libpcap
(and promiscuous mode if required) and NetFlow
v1/v5/v9 are supported.
Changes:
This release adds support for NetFlow v7/v8. Now incoming flows can be tagged basing on the NetFlow v8 aggregation type field. A serious memory leak located in the routines for handling NetFlow v9 templates has been fixed. Some gcc4 compliance issues have been solved. The source code works on AMD-64 architectures. Engine Type/Engine ID fields were not correctly evaluated when using NetFlow v5 and Pre-Tagging; the issue has been fixed.

Graph-includes creates a graph of dependencies
between source files and/or groups of source
files, with an emphasis on getting readable and
usable graphs even for large projects. Usability
of the dependency graphs are currently improved by
customizable grouping of several source files into
a single node, and transitive reduction of the graph.
Changes:
A bug causing some dependencies to be ignored has been fixed. A command line option to produce printable graphs has been added, as well as more documentation.
